  • Qualifications; LLB in Law and diploma in Legal Practice or studying towards

The Training Contract – What will I be doing?

Your first 6 months:

  • Training will be given in relation to handling and dealing with cases involving road traffic accidents from the start. This includes dealing with cases where there are issues in dispute.


  • You will have exposure to and gain experience of handling straightforward low level Personal Injury claims from the outset.


  • You will handle cases at the outset involving the recovery of insurer outlays on behalf of insurer clients.


  • You will learn how to take initial calls and statements from clients/witnesses in respect of road traffic accidents.


  • Training will be given so you can draft basic correspondence/e-mails to clients/insurers/medical experts.


  • First steps into litigation will happen in this period including training on how to draft Simple Procedure paperwork for cases to recover insurer’s outlays.


  • You will learn how to use case management systems and how to manage your time efficiently each day in respect of the role.

6-12 months:

  • Focus will be made on enhancing skills in respect of Simple Procedure litigation. This includes learning Court procedure and exposure to dealing with opposing solicitors. This will give you a good grounding for dealing with more complex litigation queries.


  • You will be given training on drafting straight forward Personal Injury actions.


  • You will assist qualified colleagues with drafting other Court documents such as valuations/motions and Records where required.


  • You will develop skills and receive training on how to value lower level personal injury cases.


  • You will learn how to provide the client with advice in respect of any evidence obtained such as a medical reports and how this impacts the client’s case.


  • You will also learn how to provide the client with advice in respect of any liability disputes including providing the client with advice in respect of the prospects of success their case may have.

12-18 months:

  • You will appear in Court or via video link for procedural Court hearings as and when required.


  • With assistance from qualified colleagues you will deal with litigating and handling Personal Injury cases.


  • You will be expected to deal with more advanced Court procedure including preparing for and dealing with hearings.


  • You will be given training on how to value higher value/more complex cases.


  • You will be able to conduct your own client meetings for straightforward cases, assisted by qualified colleagues.


  • You will develop skills in respect of providing advice to a client in respect of any offers made and provide advice as to how best to proceed taking into account any risk factors.

18-24 months:

  • You will assist in preparing cases for a full evidential hearing with the view to conducting your own evidential hearing towards the end of your traineeship.


  • You will develop drafting skills for more complex/serious injury cases, assistance will be provided from experienced colleagues.


  • You will continue to handle your own Personal Injury caseload including litigation.


  • You will appear at Court in respect of a variety of hearings including cases involving contentious issues.
